William & Mary eliminates Towson 75-71 in CAA

BALTIMORE (AP) Marcus Thornton scored 21 points and made two crucial plays in the final 6 seconds as third-seeded William & Mary defeated second-seeded Towson, 75-71, in a Colonial Athletic Association semifinal Sunday night.

William & Mary (20-11) advanced to Monday's title game against top-seeded Delaware, a semifinal winner over Northeastern Sunday. It's the Tribe's third trip to the title game in seven years.

Towson (23-10) saw its seven-game winning streak end with the loss. The Tigers missed on a chance to tie in the final 18 seconds, but Thornton stole the ball from Jerrelle Benimon (18 points) with 5.5 seconds left.

Thornton then made both ends of a one-and-one with 4.9 seconds left to ice it.

After a 36-36 halftime tie, the Tribe made six straight shots early in the second half and never trailed again.

Brandon Britt added 16 points for William & Mary while Towson's Mike Burwell had 17.
