Liverpool vs. Norwich City
Minute Commentary
It was the Luis Suarez show tonight as four goals and an assist from him helped his side to a 5-1 thrashing of Norwich at Anfield. After two minutes of Norwich attacks, Liverpool finally got into their stride and it didn't take the Uruguayan long to take his tally of league goals into double figures. He sent a superb 40 yard dipping volley over the head of John Ruddy to open the scoring. Norwich didn't react and sat back, allowing Liverpool to come onto them. This only proved to be an incentive for the hosts to double their lead, and after Philippe Coutinho won, and took, a corner in the 28th minute, Suarez did just that. Seven minutes later it was 3-0 - Suarez again the scorer to send him top of the scoring charts with 12 goals. The second half was just the same - Liverpool were on top and after dominating, scored a fourth thanks to the Uruguayan's free kick. Bradley Johnson headed in a consolation with seven minutes to go, but Raheem Sterling had the final word when he hit home with two minutes to spare. Full time and Liverpool stay in the top four on goal difference.
The ref blows for full time and Liverpool have hammered Norwich here. Full time and it's 5-1.
Iago Aspas replaces Luis Suarez who goes off to a standing ovation, and it's hardly a surprise - he's been 10/10 tonight. How he didn't win player of the year last season is a mystery.
It's 5-1 and it's a third successive game in which Liverpool have stuck five past Norwich. This time Luis Suarez turns provider as he sends a low cross in for RAHEEM STERLING to knock past John Ruddy.
Wow, had this gone in it would have been goal of the night. A hopeful ball is hoofed up and out of nothing Steven Gerrard flicks it goalwards and it rebounds off the post. John Ruddy was beaten hands down.
And finally, the fans who have made the long trip to the North West have something to cheer about. Nathan Redmond delivers a peach of a ball into the box and BRADLEY JOHNSON flicks a superb header past a helpless Simon Mignolet.
Philippe Coutinho reckons he should have a penalty here as he goes to get on the end of Luis Suarez's superb dink through. He looks like he's shoved over, but the ref isn't having any of it.
Steven Gerrard smacks a ball just wide after great chest work on the edge of the box. That would have been a contender for goal of the month.
FOUR FOR SUAREZ! Luis Suarez curls a free kick around the wall and gives John Ruddy no chance. A simply unstoppable effort, very much like Suarez and his team-mates tonight.
Liverpool's domincance has continued all the way through this half, but credit to the back four for Norwich. They're defended resolutely, though Liverpool have calmed it down a little.
Youngster Josh Murphy has replaced Wes Hoolahan and he isn't afraid to strike the ball. From 25 yards, his effort takes a deflection, but Simon Mignolet gets down well to smother the ball.
Luis Suarez gets into the box again, this time on the right-hand side. He drills the ball across John Ruddy, but the Norwich stopper gets a great hand to it to divert it away.
Luis Suarez brings out the silky footwork on the edge of the box and tries to dink a ball through to Raheem Sterling. It's deflected though, which takes it through to John Ruddy, who can collect.
The visitors are still defending for their lives but this time when the hosts have the ball, they can't convert it.
52' POOR
Philippe Coutinho has obviously been watching videos of Kyle Walker. He takes the free kick and smashes it under the wall, but can't find the target.
Liverpool have a free kick in Luis Suarez territory. I wouldn't be surprised if Steven Gerrard takes it, as it's in a similar position to the one he took against Hull.
Norwich have started this half well and Sebastien Bassong heads just over from inside the box. It was a fantastic delivery from Nathan Redmond.
Norwich get the second half underway. It could be a VERY long 45 minutes for them.
Liverpool sailed into a 3-0 half time lead against Norwich thanks to Luis Suarez's hat-trick. It was all after the visitors had sent a free kick over the bar from close range. Half time and it looks like game over already.
Anthony Taylor blows his whistle and the first half comes to an end here.
There will be two added minutes at the end of this first half here at Anfield. It'll seem a lot longer for the miserable Norwich fans.
It's another corner for the Reds after good work on the right-hand flank from Raheem Sterling. The youngster shimmies a couple of time before firing the ball across goal but it's deflected out. The corner is headed away by Sebastien Bassong.
There's been no answer for the Canaries, who have been totally overpowered in this first half. Chris Hughton will be begging for the half time whistle.
Straight up the other end Liverpool make it three! And it's a hat-trick for LUIS SUAREZ. There is absolutely no stopping him this season as he grabs his second consecutive hat-trick against Norwich.
Bradley Johnson is brought down by Joe Allen 25 yards out. Nathan Redmond stands over a free kick in a promising position but can only swing a shot over the crossbar.
Luis Suarez nearly turns creator this time. His tricky footwork leaves Martin Olsson on his bottom, before sending in a cross to Raheem Sterling at the far post. He gets in the way of Philippe Coutinho though, and they end up losing the ball.
The menacing Philippe Coutinho does well down the left and wins a corner for his side. Coutinho whips the ball in and up pops LUIS SUAREZ to grab his fifth goal in two games against Norwich.
Since the goal, it's been all Liverpool. Norwich seem to be shaken and don't have any ideas on how to get back into the game. Time could be running out for Chris Hughton.
Liverpool come forward again and with Glen Johnson this time. Nathan Redmond gives it away and the full back bursts forwards and plays a one-two with Luis Suarez. After receiving it back though, Johnson is crowded out, and Norwich clear.
What a strike from LUIS SUAREZ! The Uruguayan receives a bouncing ball and tries an audacious volley from 40 yards, only for it to come off. John Ruddy didn't stand a chance. 1-0 to Liverpool.
Ryan Bennett is putting himself about tonight. He's put in some great blocks and this time puts a foot in to stop Luis Suarez getting past him. Normally, you'd panic if he was running at you but not this lad.
Liverpool are passing the ball about well 35 yards from goal. Norwich have ten men behind the ball and the defence is proving stubborn. It'll take a piece of pure skill to get in behind them based on this first 11 minutes.
It's one end to the other with these two. Both sides are getting the ball into their attacking players and getting shots off. So far though, the 'keepers haven't been properly tested.
Liverpool come forward now and it's with the tricky Brazilian Philippe Coutinho. He gets into the box but his low drive is blocked well and then cleared away from danger.
Norwich have more of the play in these opening two minutes and try a few shots on goal but can't trouble Simon Mignolet. First Nathan Redmond and then Jonathan Howson have attempts, but they both go wide.
The first half is up and running as Liverpool kick towards the Kop end.
Just one change for Norwich tonight as striker Gary Hooper drops to the bench in place of midfielder Bradley Johnson - seems Chris Hughton is going for the draw. Full line-up: Ruddy; Martin, Bennett, Bassong, Olsson; Johnson, Fer; Hoolahan, Howson, Redmond; Elmander. Subs: Nash, Whittaker, Turner, Garrido, Murphy, Becchio, Hooper.
Brendan Rodgers makes three changes from the side that were comfortably beaten by Hull at the weekend. Kolo Toure, Lucas Leiva and Victor Moses are demoted to the bench as Daniel Agger, Joe Allen and Philippe Coutinho come in. Full line-up: Mignolet; Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Flanagan; Allen, Gerrard; Sterling, Henderson, Coutinho; Suarez. Subs: Jones, Toure, Sakho, Moses, Lucas, Aspas, Luis Alberto.

It's fourth against 14th tonight as Liverpool take on Norwich at Anfield looking to get themselves back amongst the teams at the top of the table. While the Canaries are hoping to sail seven points clear of the drop zone, providing other results are kind to them. After being the early pacesetters, Liverpool seem to have dropped off a tad in recent weeks, with one win in their last four. Norwich have gone one better, and won two of their last four games, but those wins have only come at home. Last time out the Reds were beaten 3-1 on newly-promoted Hull, while the East Anglians ran out 1-0 winners at home to Crystal Palace.
Liverpool have one of the more impressive records on home turf in the country, having lost only two of the last 18 games in all competitions - a run stretching back to December of last year. They've also won 13 of those games, making it a bit of a fortress. If Liverpool score four today, they'll have managed to achieve that feat for three consecutive home games. They have the third-best home record when it comes to goals scored. What's more, they'll also be taking on the league's weakest defence tonight.
Norwich have the worst defence in the league away from home and also have the joint-second worst away record in the league, winning only once from their six games. That win came at the end of the September against Stoke City. Alarmingly, Chris Hughton's men have scored just one goal in the last three outings on the road. And from the former Birmingham boss' pre-match interview, he emphasises how important it was they won the game against Palace, which pretty much tells you what he's expecting from this game.
He needs no introduction, Luis Suarez's record since coming back this season speaks for itself – nine goals in eight games this season following the Uruguayan's return from a ten-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic last season. And now that his strike partner Daniel Sturridge is out for what could be up to eight weeks, the Liverpool number seven is even more valuable. For Norwich, their central midfield duo of summer signing Leroy Fer and Leeds old boy Jonny Howson have created plenty of chances this season, whilst they've also found the back of the net themselves, resulting in them being top of the Norwich scoring charts for the league.
Last season Liverpool smashed ten goals past Norwich, only conceding two in the process. Of the last six Premier League meetings the Merseyside club have won five, with the only exception being a 1-1 draw at Anfield in October 2011. The Canaries' last win against Liverpool came nearly 20 years ago. Back in 1994, a solitary Jeremy Goss goal handed the Norfolk side a 1-0 at Anfield. How Chris Hughton will be hoping for another shock result like that tonight.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE Anthony Taylor is the man in charge of tonight's encounter. He is officiating his tenth game of the season. Manchester-based Taylor has been taking charge of matches in the top flight since 2010 and on the opening day of this season was the centre of controversy after awarding two debatable yellow cards to Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny. He has taken charge of one Norwich game this season – their win away at Stoke. He has also taken charge of one Liverpool game – their 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace. He's issued 31 yellow cards and sent off two players this season.
