Liverpool beats Fulham 4-0 in Premier League
LIVERPOOL, England (AP) Luis Suarez scored two goals and created another Saturday as Liverpool easily beat struggling Fulham 4-0 in the Premier League to bounce back from last week's loss to Arsenal.
Liverpool took the lead through an own goal by Fernando Amorebieta in the 23rd minute and Martin Skrtel added the second just three minutes later. Suarez then followed up his hat trick in Liverpool's last home game by adding the third with a calm finish in the 36th and firing in the fourth inside the near post in the 54th.
The Uruguay striker now has eight goals in six league matches since returning from a suspension.
The result moved Liverpool back into second place in the standings and heaped more pressure on Fulham manager Martin Jol, whose team has just 10 points from 11 games.
Fulham largely managed to contain Liverpool for the first 20 minutes, until Steven Gerrard whipped in a near-post free kick which Suarez and Daniel Agger, starting his first match since Sept. 24 as Liverpool reverted to an orthodox back four, both challenged for. Suarez appeared to get the touch which diverted the ball on to Amorebieta and inside the post.
Suarez wheeled away in celebration and Anfield's public address immediately awarded the goal to him but the defender's touch was more than decisive.
Fulham conceded again from another set piece by Gerrard, a corner sent over with just the right amount of pace to allow Skrtel to power home a header - his first goal since Dec. 22, which also came against Fulham.
The best goal of the first half was still to come, however, and the irrepressible Suarez definitely got this one.
Gerrard nutmegged Berbatov close to the halfway line before the England captain sprayed a pass out to Jordan Henderson on the right. The newly-recalled England international slid an inch-perfect ball down the channel for Suarez to fire home first time.
Gerrard also helped set up the fourth, robbing Kieran Richardson and threading a pass forward to Suarez, who dropped a shoulder to move Philippe Senderos slightly off balance before drilling home inside the near post.
