Alonso nets 2 as Chelsea survives Tottenham

Chelsea left Wembley with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham in a hugely entertaining game.

The Spurs were the dominant side for long periods, but found themselves behind to a superb Marcos Alonso free kick - the Spaniard curling the ball over the wall and past Hugo Lloris.

The Spurs spent the rest of the half, and the start of the second, peppering the Chelsea goal with shots, crosses, corners and free kicks - with Harry Kane hitting the post. However, it was to be a Chelsea player that gave the Spurs the equaliser, with substitute Michy Batshuayi turning a Christian Eriksen free kick into his own net under no pressure at all from a Spurs player.

It seemed as if the game was going to end all square until Alonso stepped up to score his second, a rolled effort across goal which Lloris really should have done better to keep out.

The Spurs will be disappointed to lose their first league game at Wembley, especially when they seemed to be the better side on the day, while Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will be pleased to silence some of the critics that have been hounding his team.
