Analysis: Thursday's release of the 31-year-old Jackson was not a surprise. He led the team with 707 yards rushing and six touchdowns in 2014, but averaged only 3.7 yards per carry. In 2013, his first season with the Falcons, he had 543 yards rushing in 12 games.

Analysis: While the yardage total against the Arizona defense was impressive, he still hasn't been give 20 carries in a game and is averaging 3.8 yards per rush. That's a bad combination for consistent production.

Analysis: Jackson is averaging 3.6 yards per carry and has three TDs this season. He is nothing more than a low-end No. 2 fantasy back at best.

Analysis: Atlanta's veteran back was facing one of the better run defenses, but he's proved far too unreliable to warrant any starts, other than in desperate times. Jackson has 285 yards on 77 carries this season and has topped 50 just twice. His output has decreased in each of the last four weeks, and he has a combined 47 yards the last two. It might be getting close to the end of the line for the the 20th-leading rusher in NFL history.

Analysis: Jackson had not practiced since July 28, when he hurt his right hamstring. On the following day, coach Mike Smith said the injury wasn't serious and Jackson would be ready for the Sept. 7 opener against New Orleans.
