Wilkerson stayed away from the team's facility during voluntary workouts while looking for a new deal. He's in the last year of his rookie contract and is seeking a long-term extension - something he says Tuesday he thought would have happened already.
Analysis: Wilkerson says the toe injury that ended his season last year is still not fully healed and might prevent him from fully participating in practices. His agent, Chad Wiestling, says in a statement that the defensive end is "willing to put the team ahead of his own contractual status" and would prefer to finish his career with the Jets.

Wilkerson has been keeping up on new coach Todd Bowles' defense by talking with several of his teammates, as well as reviewing the playbook loaded on his iPad.
Analysis: Wilkerson spoke to the media for the first time since the end of last season at his charity bowling event at Jersey Lanes. "I guess we'll see," Wilkerson said Friday night. "That's something my agent and I will discuss this weekend. That decision will be made sometime this weekend."

The players reported for workouts Monday, but are not required to attend. It was uncertain whether Wilkerson would sit out the entire non-mandatory offseason program. CBSSports.com first reported Wilkerson's absence.
Analysis: Wilkerson is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and due to make $6.9 million this season. He acknowledged at the end of last season that he was surprised there had been no movement on contract talks.
