About seven hours before facing Washington in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, team officials said the oft-injured Bynum would miss the rest of the playoffs and would not even be with the team for the rest of the postseason. Indiana lost Game 1 on Monday in the best-of-seven series.
Analysis: Bynum had been battling a sore right knee even before he signed with the team Feb. 1 from Cleveland. The Pacers hoped he could add depth behind All-Star center Roy Hibbert. Bynum looked good in his Pacers debut, but he played only one more game, finishing the season with averages of 11.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in 26 games overall.
|Apr. 7 9:11 PM PT10:11 PM MT11:11 PM CT12:11 AM ET4:11 GMT12:11 9:11 PM MST11:11 PM EST8:11 UAE06:110:11 ET11:11 PM CT3:11 - Top-seeded Indiana won't have Andrew Bynum for its first-round series against Atlanta. Coach Frank Vogel said Thursday that he believes the Pacers' oft-injured center could still work his way back for the playoffs. But he won't be available for the first round, which opens Saturday in Indianapolis.
Analysis: The Pacers signed the free agent in early February with hope he would add depth behind All-Star center Roy Hibbert. Bynum looked good in his Pacers debut, finishing with eight points and 10 rebounds. But he hasn't played since March 15 because of a sore right knee.

Team officials did not release additional details of the contract. He is expected to join the team next week.
Analysis: Because Indiana had an open spot on its roster, it will not have to make a roster move to add the mercurial 7-foot-1, 285-pound backup to All-Star center Roy Hibbert. Bynum has played only 24 games since the 2011-12 season ended. He played with Cleveland before "conduct detrimental to the team" forced a trade to Chicago, which then released him. He was averaging 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds this year with Cleveland and has career averages of 11.5 points and 7.7 rebounds.
